Rachel Frederickson lost 155 pounds on The Biggest Loser, winning the $250,000 prize. However, some are wondering if she lost too much and are worried about her health. 24-year-old Rachel, who is 5’4″, went from 260 pounds to 105 pounds.
E! reported today that The Biggest Loser producers are considering “small but significant tweaks” to the show in light of the controversy including more support and check-ins for the contestants after they leave the Biggest Loser ranch.
After seeing her dramatic weight loss, some speculated Rachel is suffering from an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia, while Rachel says her transformation was due to a 1,600-calorie-a-day diet and working out over eight hours a day. She says she walked for hours every day at a treadmill desk, did daily gym workouts, and attended up to four exercise classes a day, including Zumba and spinning.
Trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper gasped when Rachel did her big reveal during the show’s finale. Harper was stunned saying, “We’ve never had a contestant come in at 105 pounds.”
Rachel’s trainer, Dolvett Quince, author of the 3-1-2-1 Diet, defended Rachel on Facebook saying, “Please try not to look at one slice of Rachel’s journey and come to broad conclusions.”
Many contestants regain weight once they’re back to real life and some have speculated that her extreme weight loss and fitness are just the result of a contestant determined to win the $250,000.
Fellow contestant Ali Vincent said “I’m hoping she will follow her plan to get back to her fighting weight. If in a few months she’s still exactly where she is right now, then it’s our responsibility to get her some help.”
Rachel told People Magazine, “I came here to gain back my life, and I did exactly that. I’ve found that proud, confident girl that has so much respect for herself.”
