Top 5 Plus-Size Models to Watch in 2015

Ostensibly, it seems that plus-size models are at the forefront of the entertainment and fashion news cycle once again as a model has recently made history for nabbing a spot in one of the most well-known magazines in the world today.

It occurred earlier this month when it was reported that Ashley Graham would grace Sports Illustrated and be the very first plus-size model to do so. Graham previously modeled for such publications as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour and Elle Quebec. The Sports Illustrated photo hit newsstands Monday.

With unconventional models making 21st century news once again – remember, as this video highlights, heavier women have been goddesses in different societies in the past – who are some of the models to watch out for this year? Here are the top five plus-size models to be on the lookout:

Tess Holliday

Although she was bullied throughout school for her weight and eventually dropped out, she is now one of the most sought after models in the world and recently landed a major modeling contract with MiLK Model Management. She is 5’5, maintains a size 22 and is engulfed with tattoos.

Candice Huffine

This year, Candice Huffine will become a Pirelli calendar girl and will be the first plus-sized model to do so. With a size 16, this historical feat has allowed Huffine to join the iconic ranks alongside Naomi Campbell, Sophia Lauren and Kate Moss.

Felicity Hayward

Described as London’s newest bombshell, Felicity Hayward is a modeling veteran and has been photographed in such reputable publications like Vogue and Glamour. Hayward is currently a size 18 and many modeling agencies and brands are seeking out Hayward to showcase their respective brands and magazines.

Georgina Burke

Georgina Burke is profiled as an outspoken, badass Australian plus-size model who is climbing the ladder in the modeling world. Burke is a size 14 or 16 and she wonders why her demographic can’t be represented much better than it has been over the years. Here is what she said in a recent interview with the Huffington Post:

“Sixty-eight percent of women in America are over size 12. Why can’t we be put in the magazine as well? Who’s to say we aren’t good enough? What’s wrong with putting me as the face of a company or using us in a magazine or putting us out there in a fashionable way?”

Fluvia Lacerda

Fluvia Lacerda brings the exotic flavor to the world of plus-size fashion and modeling – in fact, some reporters have labeled the Brazilian beauty as the plus-size version of Gisele Bundchen. If that doesn’t make Lacera one of the breakout models of 2015 then what will?
